Deep in the Shadows
Every now and again I like to talk about what I’m reading (aside from those books folks ask me to tout). I am currently loving The Shadow Effect: Illuminating the Hidden Power of Your True Self written by Deepak Choprah, Debbie Ford and Marianne Williamson. I have long been aware of the concept of the shadow self, the part of that, due to shame or fear or desire for acceptance we stuff down inside ourselves away from public consumption. I have also been long aware that my shadow is particularly murky and deep. I’ve used William Rand’s shadow self meditation to introduce the concept to my students for the past few years.
However, I hadn’t explored that concept as deeply as I have since I started reading this book. I am a bit more than halfway through right now and I have to say it is one of those books you read slowly, savor, and reflect upon. You recognize yourself and your situation in these pages and how to deal with wherever your life and your shadow have taken you. From what I understand there is going to be a movie as well, which I think will prove quite interesting.
